In the tradition and spirit of classical ballet, this sumptuous Tchaikovsky National Ballet production captures all the beauty and drama of authentic romantic ballet, an all-time classic that appeals to all generations.

In each of the performances, the Tchaikovsky National Ballet’s main motivation is to care for the traditions and essence of the purest classical ballet, making them a feast for the senses with the charm of its costumes and the showiness of its decorations; generating a fascinating balance with the perfection of its lines and the sobriety of its choreographies.

This ballet, one of Tchaikovsky’s best-known ballets with original choreography by Lev Ivanov, is a fable in the spirit of Christmas that speaks of longing for lost childhood and the clash between the reality of adults and the dream world of children.

The libretto is by Marius Petipa, derived from a text by Alexandre Dumas, who was in turn inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s famous tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.

Innocence, inner beauty and courage are the central themes of The Nutcracker. A fantasy given to us by the Tchaikovsky National Ballet that entertains and delights those who still believe in magic.
