The Kursaal Convention Centre and the Miramar Palace have hosted a varied programme of congresses and events in 2024, consolidating themselves as reference venues for holding MICE meetings. Throughout the year, both venues have hosted a total of 345 events, which have brought together more than 130,000 professional attendees from different sectors.
Events that leave a legacy
The congresses and professional events held in the city not only boost its agenda, but also leave a lasting mark on the territory, promoting knowledge, science and innovation, and generating a positive impact on citizens.
Of the 339 events organised, 42 congresses and conventions, 293 conferences and meetings (including corporate events and incentives) and 10 trade fairs were held. Of particular importance were the international meetings, which attracted professionals from all over the world. These included events such as the International Water Association Waterloss Conference (IWA) and the International Quantum Matter Conference (QUAMTUMatter), as well as prestigious events such as BioEquity Europe, the Travel Blogger Exchange Europe (TBEX) and the European South Atlantic Biophysics Congress (ESAB-YSS).
Other highlights on the calendar include the International Symposium on Laser Precision Microfabrication (LPM), the Lubrication Management and Technology Conference (LUMBAT) and the Biennial Hemingway Society Conference.
On a national level, Kursaal also hosted important meetings such as the XI National Pelvic Floor Congress (SEGO) and the XXVII National Congress of Psychiatry and Mental Health (SEPSM).
In addition, the Club de Creativos and San Sebastián Gastronomika Euskadi Basque Country, unmissable annual events, continue to attract numerous professionals from the fields of creativity and advertising and gastronomy lovers. Moreover, this year, the 72nd edition of the San Sebastian Festival broke the record for accreditations, reaching 5,314 accredited participants, and achieved a remarkable level of audience attendance. The Kursaal was once again the main venue for the festival.
In the corporate sphere, events such as SALTO WECOSYSTEM and the meeting organised by ABB Niessen stood out. In addition, Kursaal hosted the exciting eSports competition LaLiga FC Pro Cup, thus consolidating its versatility for hosting events of various kinds.
The Miramar Palace has also hosted renowned conferences such as the Thalamocortical Networks, organised by the BCBL (Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language), the XXIst International Workshop on Quantum Atomic and Molecular Tunneling Systems or the Nanotechnology Meets Quantum Information, both organised by the Donostia International Physics Center, among others.
The holding of these meetings not only boosts the city's professional and economic activity, but also reinforces San Sebastian's position as an outstanding centre for science, research and knowledge. By hosting experts from different disciplines and encouraging the exchange of ideas, the city is consolidating its position as a benchmark for scientific progress and innovation at a national and international level.
