The meeting, organised by DIPC, aims to promote the exchange of ideas and collaboration, as well as to further develop quantum technology.
The Kursaal in San Sebastian becomes the epicentre of scientific progress and international collaboration with the Quantum Matter conference, organised by the prestigious Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) and part of the Basque Government's Basque Quantum Strategy. More than 600 professionals are meeting to explore the frontiers of quantum technology, exchanging ideas and promoting collaborations that will boost this ever-expanding field.
The inauguration of Quantum Matter 2024 was attended by the Basque Government's Minister of Education, Jokin Bildarratz, who highlighted the disruptive potential of quantum technologies and their role as a spearhead in regional science policies. This fourth edition of the meeting aims not only to delve deeper into technological advances, but also to foster the incubation of new ideas and collaborations in areas such as emerging quantum materials and quantum communication and simulation protocols.
The BasQ Strategy, led by the Basque Government's Department of Education and backed by the provincial councils of Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, together with the strategic collaboration of IBM, seeks to position the Basque Country as a benchmark in quantum technologies in Southern Europe. In this line, the commitment to research excellence and collaboration with institutions such as IBM Research is highlighted, with joint projects that promote the training of researchers and professionals in quantum computing.
In addition, Quantum Matter 2024 marks a milestone by including for the first time a session in the Industrial Forum section, where the main actions and results obtained through the collaboration between IBM and the Basque Science System will be shared. This session will be led by the renowned IBM Research expert, Jay Gambetta, offering a space for the exchange of knowledge and the exploration of new opportunities in the industrial field.
