The Kursaal hosted the European Conference Social Economy: People, Planet, Action, organised by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy in Donostia / San Sebastian - Spanish Capital of the Social Economy 2023 -, within the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
This event, which brought together some 600 experts from the sector, mainly European, is part of the events of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, but also highlights the strong impetus that has been given in recent years to a way of understanding the economy, which is gaining more and more followers because it redistributes benefits.
The Secretary of State for Employment and the Social Economy, Joaquín Pérez Rey, together with the Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, and the Mayor, Eneko Goia, opened the European Conference on the Social Economy yesterday, making the city of Donostia the epicentre of an economic model that has just received the backing of the United Nations and the European Union.
During the two days, there was also an opportunity to exchange experiences in workshops designed to explore financing ideas, improve the visibility of these economic management proposals and how to attract new generations to this economic model. Visits were also made to social economy companies and organisations in the Basque Country. This year, the city of Donostia holds the title of Capital of the Social Economy, representing the cooperatives, labour companies, mutual societies, insertion companies, special employment centres, brotherhoods and non-profit foundations, among others, that make up this economic ecosystem.
