During the first half of 2023, the Kursaal Congress Centre and the Miramar Palace have become the scene of vibrant congress and meeting activity. Both venues hosted a total of 12 congresses, 6 of which were international, as well as 76 conferences, 3 trade fairs and 36 meetings. These figures have reached the number of events held in the first half of 2019, which until now had been considered a record year. All this confirms the strong recovery of the MICE sector, demonstrating a solid reactivation after the hard years the sector has suffered.
Among the congresses held this spring were the X Nautical Congress, organised by the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN), which brought together national and international experts and professionals from the maritime sector in March. Also worth mentioning is the Congress of the Club de Creativos, which brought together creative and visionary minds to discuss the latest trends in the field of advertising and communication.
From 11 to 13 May, the Kursaal was the venue for the XLIII Congress of the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine (Semfyc), which brought together more than 1,500 health professionals, providing a space for updating knowledge and exchanging experiences in the field of family medicine. Likewise, the 39th Annual Regional Circom Congress on 1-2 June brought together regional broadcasting professionals and experts from across Europe, fostering the exchange of ideas and collaboration.
Other highlights in June included the Ayesa-Ibermática Convention, a high-level business meeting addressing issues related to digital transformation and innovation in the technology sector. As well as the meeting "Physics and Applications of High Brightness Beams", organised by UCLA University in California, which brought together international scientists and researchers.
Similarly, in June, the "2D Materials Congress", the "S-Snom Workshop" and the "Organic Battery Days 2023" were held at the Miramar Palace, events that attracted experts and professionals in nanotechnology, optics and renewable energies.
In total, these events attracted more than 30,000 attendees. With these results, it is clear that the MICE sector has recovered strongly, demonstrating the adaptability and resilience of the organisers and participants. The Kursaal and the Miramar Palace have consolidated their position as benchmark venues for holding conferences, meetings and large-scale events, contributing to economic growth and the projection of the city of San Sebastian as a top-level tourist and business destination.
